PT-3 The Siege of Jerusalem (Zech. 12:3)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 10/15/2016 9:51 PM

My Worship Time                                                                 Focus:  PT-3 The Siege of Jerusalem

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                 Reference:  Zechariah 12:3

Message of the verses:  “3 “It will come about in that day that I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples; all who lift it will be severely injured. And all the nations of the earth will be gathered against it.”

The words “heavy stone” means that the stone that Zechariah is writing about is very heavy, it actually speaks of stones that men use to lift to see how strong they were kind of like the weights that are used in weight lifting competition today, as they keep adding weights to the bars until no one can lift it any longer.  The stone that is referred to here will be Jerusalem.  Jerusalem will be attacked by all the nations in the world during the Day of the Lord and they will not be able to defeat that city because God is going to defend Jerusalem.

Now when we look at the words “severely injured” this pictures what happens to someone who tries to lift more than they are capable to lift and what they end up with is a rupture which is what the Hebrew means.

Now what is going to happen during this time in the future we have discussed in many of our earlier Spiritual Diaries from the ones in Daniel, Joel, and Revelation.  We have learned that in these last days of the Tribulation period comes a great battle that is called the battle of Armageddon as all the world’s armies will be gathered in the Middle East, in the nation of Israel and the armies will be coming from all directions and will end up fighting against each other until they see in the sky the return of Jesus Christ along with His armies and they will all begin to fight against Him and His armies, but that will be fruitless as He will conquer them all in a very short amount of time.  This is what is called The Day of the Lord.  Let us look at the third chapter of Joel “9 Proclaim this among the nations: Prepare a war; rouse the mighty men! Let all the soldiers draw near, let them come up! (V. 9).”  Verse 10-17 says “10  Beat your plowshares into swords And your pruning hooks into spears; Let the weak say, "I am a mighty man." 11 Hasten and come, all you surrounding nations, And gather yourselves there. Bring down, O LORD, Your mighty ones. 12 Let the nations be aroused And come up to the valley of Jehoshaphat, For there I will sit to judge All the surrounding nations. 13 Put in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe. Come, tread, for the wine press is full; The vats overflow, for their wickedness is great. 14 Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision. 15 The sun and moon grow dark And the stars lose their brightness. 16 The LORD roars from Zion And utters His voice from Jerusalem, And the heavens and the earth tremble. But the LORD is a refuge for His people And a stronghold to the sons of Israel. 17 Then you will know that I am the LORD your God, Dwelling in Zion, My holy mountain. So Jerusalem will be holy, And strangers will pass through it no more.”  These verses also speak of what is going to happen during the battle of Armageddon.

I mentioned in our last SD that we would next be looking at the Shielding of Israel in today’s SD, but I was mistaken and we will do that in our next SD as we continue to move through this 12th chapter of Zechariah.
