SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 10/20/2016 10:54 AM
My Worship Time Focus:
PT-3 The Shocking Revelation of Christ’s Love
Bible Reading &
Meditation Reference: John 13:9-11
Message of the verses: “9 Simon Peter said to Him, "Lord, then
wash not only my feet, but also my hands and my head." 10 Jesus said to
him, "He who has bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely
clean; and you are clean, but not all of you." 11 For He knew the one who
was betraying Him; for this reason He said, "Not all of you are
clean."”
We see
Peter going from not having Jesus wash his feet to having Him wash his feet,
hands, and head. Peter missed the point
that what Jesus was doing was teaching a spiritual lesson, not a physical
lesson. Jesus continues His spiritual lesson
by saying to Peter “"He who has bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is
completely clean; and you are clean.”
Yes Peter was spiritually clean and the question was why was he
spiritually clean? Peter believed that
Jesus Christ was the Messiah, the Son of God who was sent from the Father and
put all of his faith and trust in Him.
In teaching the spiritual lesson using physical aids to do so Jesus was
saying that once one takes a bath and then goes out into the world and comes
back home they do not need to take another bath, just a foot washing is all
they need, and the spiritual lesson is that once a person becomes a true believer
in Jesus Christ and then as he walks around in the world he will sin, and so as
John would later write in 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful
and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness.” As believers we are to
keep a short account with our Lord and so when we sin, and we all do, we must
agree with the Lord that it was sin and then confess it to the Lord and He will
forgive us, this is the spiritual lesson of foot washing.
Jesus goes
on to tell His disciples that all of them were clean with the exception of the
one who would betray Him, and that of course was Judas. Jesus knew the one who would betray Him all
along, but His disciples had no idea who it was, and that is a scary thought to
me. Jesus knew that Satan had put into
the mind and heart of Judas to betray Him, for after all Jesus knows
everything, even our thoughts that no one else knows anything about, and one
can imagine what the thoughts of Judas were.
In saying these words it was the last opportunity that Jesus would give
to Judas who as stated was on the brink of executing his wicked scheme, however
Judas would not be deterred from doing it.
John
MacArthur concludes this section: “Jesus
was not taken by surprise by Judas’s treachery.
Long before that night He had said regarding him, ‘Did I Myself not
choose you, the twelve, and yet one of you is a devil?’ (John 6:70). All aspects of Christ’s death—including Judas’s
betrayal—were part of God’s predetermined plan (Acts 2:23). As noted earlier, however, that does not
excuse Judas of personal responsibility for his wicked act (Matt. 26:24).”
Spiritual meaning for my life today: Psalm 139:23-24 “23 Search me, O God, and
know my heart; Try me and know my anxious thoughts; 24 And see if there be any
hurtful way in me, And lead me in the everlasting way.”
My Steps of Faith for
Today: Keep a short list with the
Lord.

be master over you, for you are not under law but under grace.”
