SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 10/19/2016 9:55 PM
My Worship Time Focus: The Sorrow of Israel
Bible Reading &
Meditation Reference: Zechariah 12:10-14
Message of the verses: “10 I will pour out on the house of David and
on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Spirit of grace and of supplication, so
that they will look on Me whom they have pierced; and they will mourn for Him,
as one mourns for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him like the
bitter weeping over a firstborn. 11 “In
that day there will be great mourning in Jerusalem, like the mourning of
Hadadrimmon in the plain of Megiddo. 12 “The land will mourn, every family by
itself; the family of the house of David by itself and their wives by
themselves; the family of the house of Nathan by itself and their wives by
themselves; 13 the family of the house of Levi by itself and their wives by
themselves; the family of the Shimeites by itself and their wives by themselves;
14 all the families that remain, every family by itself and their wives by
themselves.”
Perhaps one
of the saddest verses in all of Scripture, verse 10 of Zechariah chapter 12,
and so we want to look at this verse and do a little review of what we have
been looking at in this 12th chapter of Zechariah. In our last Spiritual Diaries we have seen
the political victory that God is going to give Israel during the battle of
Armageddon. I remember listening to Hal Lindsey
many years ago talk about the 1967 war that Israel was involved in and how they
acquired the city of Jerusalem from that winning war. He was talking about a general who was in the
fight and they were going towards Jerusalem and all of a sudden a very strong
wind started blowing, which according to the general did not usually happen at
that time of the year. After the blast
of wind was over he looked out to see that the wind had uncovered many land
mines that they would have walked over and been killed. The general said that he did not believe in
God before that, but did afterwards.
This is the kind of things that will take place during the battle of
Armageddon as God will fight for Israel.
In the 19th
chapter of the book of Revelation we read about the second coming of Jesus
Christ as He returns from heaven ridding on a white horse along with what many
believe that the raptured saints will also be ridding white horses in His
company. At this time the Jews who have survived
the tribulation will understand who this is and so verse ten will be fulfilled
at this time. Think of the sorrow that
these people will have to go through as they look upon the Lord Jesus Christ,
the one whose ancestors’ crucified because they did not believe that He was the
Son of God. Forty years after that
crucifixion of Jesus the Romans destroyed the temple in Jerusalem along with
the city of Jerusalem and the Jews have been on the run ever since that time as
Daniel chapter nine speaks of. In May of
1948 soon after six million Jews were killed the United Nations made Israel a
nation again and we believe that this has been the beginning of the leading
into the tribulation period.
I want to
mention that we will return to verse ten in our next SD as we will be looking
at “The Salvation of Israel” which is seen in verse ten, but we want to move on
and look at verses 11-14 and talk about the families which will be in sorrow
because of the return of Jesus Christ.
What we see here is individual families who will be mourning over the
fact that they missed the fact that the Son of God was crucified. This is not some national day of mourning,
but individual families that take it upon themselves to morn over this truth of
killing the Son of God. Now when we went
over these verses in an earlier SD we spoke of this.
