SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 10/16/2016 10:49 PM
My Worship Time Focus: The Shielding of Israel PT-1
Bible Reading &
Meditation Reference: Zechariah 12:4-9
Message of the verses: “4 “In that day," declares the LORD, "I will
strike every horse with bewilderment and his rider with madness. But I will
watch over the house of Judah, while I strike every horse of the peoples with
blindness. 5 “Then the clans of Judah will say in their hearts, ’A strong
support for us are the inhabitants of Jerusalem through the LORD of hosts,
their God.’ 6 "In that day I will make
the clans of Judah like a firepot among pieces of wood and a flaming torch
among sheaves, so they will consume on the right hand and on the left all the
surrounding peoples, while the inhabitants of Jerusalem again dwell on their
own sites in Jerusalem. 7 The LORD also shall save the tents of Judah first,
that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of
Jerusalem do not magnify themselves against Judah. 8 In that day shall the LORD defend the
inhabitants of Jerusalem; and he that is feeble among them at that day shall be
as David; and the house of David shall be as God, as the angel of the LORD
before them. 9 And it shall come to pass
in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against
Jerusalem.” (Verses 7-9 KJV)
Zechariah
writes that the Lord will strike all of the horses with “bewilderment” along
with the riders, and we don’t know for sure if he is talking about real horses,
for horses are a sign of strength so it could mean that he is talking about
military machines like tanks, but we don’t know for sure. However we do know that he is talking about
the battle of Armageddon because we see the phrase “in that day” two times.
It is also
interesting that in Deuteronomy 28:28 we read “"The LORD will smite you
with madness and with blindness and with bewilderment of heart,” and this
speaks of what the Lord was going to do to Israel, and now He will do that to
Israel’s enemies during this last battle.
Now if you think about a battle that Gideon was in where he only used
300 men to defeat Israel’s enemies as their enemies began to slay each other,
so this kind of things has happened in the OT too.
Verse five
speaks of the town around Jerusalem, the actual country side around Jerusalem
in Judah. These are the people who will
be the most vulnerable in a way, and yet God will protect them, “The
inhabitants of Jerusalem shall be my strength in the Lord of hosts their God.”
We will continue this section in our next SD.
