PT-1 “The Plight of Those Under Judgment” (Nahum 2:7)

MORNING SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 1/24/2026 9:33 AM

My Worship Time                                        Focus:  PT-1 “The Plight of Those Under Judgment”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                                     Reference:  Nahum 2:7

Message of the verse:  “So it stands fixed: She is exiled, she is carried away, And her maidservants are moaning like the sound of doves, Beating on their hearts.

“7  its mistress is stripped; she is carried off, her slave girls lamenting, moaning like doves and beating their breasts.” (ESV)

John MacArthur writes:  “Having detailed Nineveh’s fall, Nahum proceeded to describe the plight of the Assyrian people as a result of this judgment.  Reiterating the certainty of his prophecy, Nahum declared, ‘So is stands fixed.’  The verb for stand fixed describes an object that is firmly positioned and remains immovable (cf. Gen. 28:2).”

(cf. Gen. 28:2)

“2  Arise, go to Paddan-Aram to the house of Bethuel your mother’s father, and take as your wife from there one of the daughters of Laban your mother’s brother.”

“This decree, like everything revealed in God’s Word, was absolutely fixed and definite (cf. Num. 23:19; Ecc. 7:13; Isa. 14:24-27; 46:9-11).”

(cf. Num. 23:19; Ecc. 7:13; Isa. 14:24-27; 46:9-11)

“19  God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?”

“13  Consider the work of God: who can make straight what he has made crooked?”

24 ¶  The LORD of hosts has sworn: "As I have planned, so shall it be, and as I have purposed, so shall it stand, 25  that I will break the Assyrian in my land, and on my mountains trample him underfoot; and his yoke shall depart from them, and his burden from their shoulder." 26  This is the purpose that is purposed concerning the whole earth, and this is the hand that is stretched out over all the nations. 27  For the LORD of hosts has purposed, and who will annul it? His hand is stretched out, and who will turn it back?”

“9  remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me, 10  declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose,’ 11  calling a bird of prey from the east, the man of my counsel from a far country. I have spoken, and I will bring it to pass; I have purposed, and I will do it.”

“Nahum made three pronouncements about Nineveh and its residents.  First, he declared that she is exiled in disgrace.  The pronoun she refers not only to the city but also to its false goddess Ishtar (See discussion on Nahum 1:14; cf. Judges 6:25-32; 1 Sam. 4:1-11; 5:1-7).”

As far as the discussion on Nahum 1:14 you can look at that from Jan. 6-8 of this year from my Spiritual Diaries.

(See discussion on Nahum 1:14; cf. Judges 6:25-32; 1 Sam. 4:1-11; 5:1-7)

“25 ¶  That night the LORD said to him, "Take your father’s bull, and the second bull seven years old, and pull down the altar of Baal that your father has, and cut down the Asherah that is beside it 26  and build an altar to the LORD your God on the top of the

stronghold here, with stones laid in due order. Then take the second bull and offer it as a burnt offering with the wood of the Asherah that you shall cut down." 27  So Gideon took ten men of his servants and did as the LORD had told him. But because he was too afraid of his family and the men of the town to do it by day, he did it by night. 28  When the men of the town rose early in the morning, behold, the altar of Baal was broken down, and the Asherah beside it was cut down, and the second bull was offered on the altar that had been built. 29  And they said to one another, "Who has done this thing?" And after they had searched and inquired, they said, "Gideon the son of Joash has done this thing." 30  Then the men of the town said to Joash, "Bring out your son, that he may die, for he has broken down the altar of Baal and cut down the Asherah beside it." 31  But Joash said to all who stood against him, "Will you contend for Baal? Or will you save him? Whoever contends for him shall be put to death by morning. If he is a god, let him contend for himself, because his altar has been broken down." 32  Therefore on that day Gideon was called Jerubbaal, that is to say, "Let Baal contend against him," because he broke down his altar.”

1 ¶  And the word of Samuel came to all Israel. Now Israel went out to battle against the Philistines. They encamped at Ebenezer, and the Philistines encamped at Aphek. 2  The Philistines drew up in line against Israel, and when the battle spread, Israel was defeated before the Philistines, who killed about four thousand men on the field of battle. 3  And when the people came to the camp, the elders of Israel said, "Why has the LORD defeated us today before the Philistines? Let us bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD here from Shiloh, that it may come among us and save us from the power of our enemies." 4  So the people sent to Shiloh and brought from there the ark of the covenant of the LORD of hosts, who is enthroned on the cherubim. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God. 5  As soon as the ark of the covenant of the LORD came into the camp, all Israel gave a mighty shout, so that the earth resounded. 6  And when the Philistines heard the noise of the shouting, they said, "What does this great shouting in the camp of the Hebrews mean?" And when they learned that the ark of the LORD had come to the camp, 7  the Philistines were afraid, for they said, "A god has come into the camp." And they said, "Woe to us! For nothing like this has happened before. 8  Woe to us! Who can deliver us from the power of these mighty gods? These are the gods who struck the Egyptians with every sort of plague in the wilderness. 9  Take courage, and be men, O Philistines, lest you become slaves to the Hebrews as they have been to you; be men and fight." 10  So the Philistines fought, and Israel was defeated, and they fled, every man to his home. And there was a very great slaughter, for thirty thousand foot soldiers of Israel fell. 11  And the ark of God was captured, and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, died.”

“1 ¶  When the Philistines captured the ark of God, they brought it from Ebenezer to Ashdod. 2  Then the Philistines took the ark of God and brought it into the house of Dagon and set it up beside Dagon. 3  And when the people of Ashdod rose early the next day, behold, Dagon had fallen face downward on the ground before the ark of the LORD. So they took Dagon and put him back in his place. 4  But when they rose early on the next morning, behold, Dagon had fallen face downward on the ground before the ark of the LORD, and the head of Dagon and both his hands were lying cut off on the threshold. Only the trunk of Dagon was left to him. 5  This is why the priests of Dagon and all who enter the house of Dagon do not tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod to this day.  6 The hand of the LORD was heavy against the people of Ashdod, and he terrified and afflicted them with tumors, both Ashdod and its territory. 7  And when the men of Ashdod saw how things were, they said, "The ark of the God of Israel must not remain with us, for his hand is hard against us and against Dagon our god.’”

I will stop here as I don’t usually stop in the middle of a paragraph, but I don’t want this SD to be too long.

Spiritual meaning for My Life Today:  As I look at MacArthur’s title for this section of verses there are certain things that I think of.  First and foremost God is in control of everything that happens on this earth for God is all knowing.  Second that this can be a prelude of what will happened in the end times, during the tribulation period as God will be judging unbelievers in a greater judgment as there will be many billions of people in that judgment.

My Steps of Faith for Today:  I am thankful for God’s judgment that took place on Jesus Christ on the cross, for it was through that judgment that He judged all of my sins, past, present, and future so that I stand before Him perfect.

From Dr. David Jeremiah:  “To sin by silence when they should protest makes cowards of men” (Abraham Lincoln.)

Our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king.  But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up.” (Daniel 3:17-18).
