PT-5 "History" (2 Peter 3:5-7)

EVENING SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 1/13/2026 5:55 PM

My Worship Time                                                                                        Focus:  PT-5“History”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                                  Reference:  2 Peter 3:5-7

Message of the verses: “For when they maintain this, it escapes their notice that by the word of God the heavens existed long ago and the earth was formed out of water and by water, through which the world at that time was destroyed, being flooded with water.  But by His word the present heavens and earth are being reserved for fire, kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.” (NASB)

I continue this evening to look at and write about these verses in the same way that I have been. I mention that these are very important verses not only in 2 Peter, but in the entire Bible.

“Contrary to the objections of certain skeptics, there would have been more than enough water to cover the entire earth.  In addition to the water already on the earth’s surface (which even in today’s post Flood world covers nearly three-fourths of the planet), two other vast sources of water existed: subterranean reservoirs (the ‘the fountains of the great deep’ [Gen. 7:11; cf. 8:2]).”

[Gen. 7:11; cf. 8:2])

2  And the springs of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained.

“11 ¶  In year six hundred of Noah’s life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the springs of the great deep were broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.’”

“Together, those two sources provided enough water to encompass the entire globe with rain for forty days and nights (Gen. 7:12).

(Gen. 7:12)

“12  And the rain was upon the earth for forty days and forty nights.”

“The language of Genesis 7, where the Flood is described in detail, can be explained only if a global Flood is in view.”  Now I am going to look at John MacArthur’s note from his study Bible grom Genesis 7:11.

“7:11 month…day.  The calendar system of Noah’s day is unknown, although it appears that one month equaled 30 days.  If calculated by the Jewish calendar of Moses’ day, it would be about May.  This period of God’s grace was ended (cf. 6:3, 8; 7:4).  All the fountains of the great deep were broken.  The subterranean waters sprang up from inside the earth to form the seas and rivers (1:10; 2:10-14), which were not produced by rainfall (since there was none), but the deep fountains in the earth.  The windows of heaven. The celestial waters in the canopy encircling the globe were dumped on the earth and joined with the terrestrial and the subterranean waters (cf. 1:7).  This ended the water canopy surrounding the earth and unleashed the water in the earth; together these phenomena began the new system of hydrology that has since characterized the earth (see Job 28:6; Eccl. 1:7; Isa. 55:10; Amos 9:6).  The sequence in this verse indicating that the earth’s crust breaks up first, then the heavens drop their water, is interesting because the volcanic explosions that would have occurred when the earth fractured would have sent magma and dust into the atmosphere, along with gigantic sprays of water, gas, and air—all penetrating the canopy and triggering its downpour.”

I find this note from MacArthur’s study Bible very interesting and is something that I have believed for most of my Christian life.  What we have here in this note speaks what happened when the Noahic flood came, and the one thing that I did not see in that note was that is something that I also have read about and that was the earth turning on its axes which is why we have the weather patterns we have now.  I have mentioned that before the flood that the entire earth was tropical but afterwards it is not.  I have also mentioned that in one of the polls, not sure which one, but elephants have been discovered with food in their mouths inside the ice, which means that when the flood happened it happened very fast.

“The false teachers of Peter’s time refused to view world history properly.  Due to their self-centered hedonism, they provide a classic example of willful ignorance.  Like today’s revisionist historians the false teachers deliberately denied both the creation story and the Flood—the two catastrophic events that easily disprove their uniformitarian views.

“In Genesis 9:11, 15, God promised to never again destroy the earth by means of a universal flood.  But that does not mean that He will never again enact global judgment.  One the contrary, by His word the present heavens and earth are being reserved for fire.  While the pre-Flood world system was drowned by water, the present world system will be consumed by flames (Job 21:30; Ps. 9:7; 96:13; Matt. 13:40-42; 25:32; Rom. 2:5; Heb. 9:27; 10:27).  That future judgment, as with the Flood, will come by the power and authority of His word.”

(Job 21:30; Ps. 9:7; 96:13; Matt. 13:40-42; 25:32; Rom. 2:5; Heb. 9:27; 10:27)

“30   For the wicked man is reserved for the day of destruction;  They will be brought out on the day of wrath.’

“7  But the LORD shall endure for ever;  He has prepared his throne for judgment. “

“13   Before the LORD. For he comes,  For he comes to judge the earth.  He will judge the world with righteousness,  And the people with his truth.”

“40  Therefore, as the tares are gathered and burned in the fire, so it will be in the end of this world. 41  The Son of man will send out his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice iniquity, 42  and will cast them into a furnace of fire: there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.”

“32  And before him all the nations will be gathered, and he will separate them from each other, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.”

“5  But by your hardness and your impenitent heart you treasure up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God,”

“27  And as it is appointed for men once to die, but after this the judgment,”

“27  but a certain fearful expectation of judgment and fiery indignation, which will devour the adversaries.”
