PT-5“Judgment Affirms God’s Plan” (Nahum 1:9-13)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 01-05-2026

My Worship Time                                                   Focus:  PT-5“Judgment Affirms God’s Plan”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                                Reference:  Nahum 1:9-13

Message of the verses:  “9 ¶  What do you conspire against the LORD?  He will make an utter end of it. Affliction will not rise up a second time. 10  For while tangled like thorns,  And while drunken like drunkards,  They will be devoured like stubble fully dry. 11  Out of you comes  One who plots evil against the LORD,  A wicked counsellor.  12  Thus says the LORD:  “Though they are quiet and likewise many,  Yet they will be cut down when he will pass through.  Though I have afflicted you, I shall afflict you no more; 13  For now I shall break off his yoke from you,  And burst your bonds apart.”

I really thought that I would have finished this section in yesterday's SD, but there are many verses to look up, and so I will continue in today’s SD to see if I can finish it.  Also I want to begin something new, but not too new as I have used this in earlier SD’s a long time ago, and that is something that comes from Dr. David Jeremiah, and his turning point ministry as he has written note cards with words of wisdom on them, which he wrote in 2002.  I will post them at the end of my morning SD’s and I think that all who will read them will be blessed.

“God’s declaration that He will break the yoke bar meant that He would destroy Nineveh to deliver His people from Assyrian oppression.  The Lord then added, ‘I will break your bands apart.’  In Psalm 107:14, this same statement described God’s deliverance of despairing people, even those in the shadow of death (cf. v. 10).”

Psalm 107:10, 14)

“10 ¶  Those who sat in darkness and the shadow of death,  Bound in affliction and irons,”

“14  He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death,  And broke their bonds in pieces.”

“Here in Nahum, this promise to break your bands apart indicated that the Lord would remove the heavy shackles of despair that weighed His people down. As the Psalmist declared:

1 ¶  «A Song of Ascents.» When the LORD brought back the captives of Zion,  We were like those who dream. 2  Then our mouth was filled with laughter,  And our tongue with singing.  Then they said among the nations,  “The LORD has done great things for them.” 3  The LORD has done great things for us,  And we are glad (Ps. 126:1-3).

“By declaring His intention to destroy Nineveh, the Lord made it clear that Assyria would afflict Israel no longer.  The promise foreshadowed Israel’s ultimate salvation at the end of the age.  When the Lord Jesus returns, God will not afflict His people in discipline anymore (Jer. 50:29; 51:56; Obadiah 15) but will rather free Israel permanently from the yoke of every enemy (cf. Isa. 10:27; Ezek. 34:27).”

(Jer. 50:29; 51:56; Obadiah 15)

“29  Summon the archers against Babylon.  All you who bend the bow,  Camp against her all around;  Let her have no escape.  Repay her according to her work;  According to all that she has done, do to her;  For she has acted proudly against the LORD,  Against the Holy One of Israel.”

“56  Because the plunderer comes upon her, even upon Babylon,  And her mighty men are taken.  Every one of their bows are broken;  For the LORD is the God of retribution,  He will surely repay.”

“15  For the day of the LORD is near  For all the nations;  As you have done, it will be done to you;  Your deeds will return upon your own head.”

(cf. Isa. 10:27; Ezek. 34:27)

“27  And it will come to pass on that day  That his burden will be taken away from off your shoulder,  And his yoke from your neck,  And the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing oil.”

“27  And the trees of the field will yield their fruit, and the earth will yield its crops. And they will be safe in their land, and they will know that I am the LORD, when I have broken the bands of their yoke and delivered them out of the hand of those who served themselves by them.”

“In that day, Israel will enjoy only the Lord’s blessing.  The destruction of Nineveh proved that God will keep His promises to Israel, both to judge Israel’s enemies and to preserve His people immediately and ultimately.  The Lord will accomplish His plan precisely as He has ordained it.”

Spiritual Meaning for my Life today:  I know that the things that God has promised in the Old Testament concerning Israel will come about, for God cannot lie and His Word is always true, and so that gives me great comfort.

My Steps of Faith for Today:  Trust the Lord to continue to work in my heart and my wife’s heart to give us comfort in these difficult days that we are living in, “knowing that that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose.”

Wisdom from Dr. Jeremiah:  “God’s part is to protect us by giving us wisdom.  Our part is to want to be protected by seeking It.”  “He guards the paths of justice, And preserves the way of His saints.” (Proverbs 2:8).
