PT-2 Intro to Nahum 2:1-7

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 1/15/2026 10:04 AM

My Worship Time                                                               Focus:  PT-2 “A Prophetic Judgment”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                                  Reference:  Nahum 2:1-7

Message of the verses: “The one who scatters has come up against you.  Guard the fortification, watch the road; Strengthen your loins, instill your power with exceeding courage.  For Yahweh will restore the majesty of Jacob Like the majesty of Israel, Even though those who empty them have emptied them to destruction And ruined their vine branches.  The shields of his mighty men are colored red, The valiant men are dressed in scarlet, The chariots are enveloped in flashing steel When he is set up to march, And the cypress spears are brandished.  The chariots race madly in the streets; They rush wildly in the squares; Their appearance is like torches; They dash to and fro like lightning flashes.  He remembers his mighty ones; They stumble in their march; They hurry to her wall, And the mantelet is set up.  The gates of the rivers are opened, And the palace is melted away.  So it stands fixed:  She is exiled, she is carried away,  And her maidservants are moaning like the sound of doves, Beating on their hearts.”

I began the introduction to these verses yesterday while I was with my wife as she was getting her Kemo treatment but did not get too far, and so I will continue this introduction this morning.

“The Lord Jesus also affirmed the absolute reliability of Scripture, reminding the religious leaders that ‘Scripture cannot be broken’ (John 10:35; cf. 17:17).”

(John 10:35; cf. 17:17).

“35  If he called them gods to whom the word of God came—and Scripture cannot be broken”

“17 ¶  Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.”

“In the Sermon on the Mount, He explained that ‘until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished” (Matt. 5:18).  Christ’s point was that Scripture cannot fail, not even at the level of the smallest letter, a yodh in Hebrew, or a ‘stroke,’ a small mark to distinguish one Hebrew letter from another.  Every detail of God’s Word will be fulfilled perfectly and precisely.”  Now just think about that statement for a moment whenever you are reading the Word of God, and I think about God when I think about that statement, knowing that He cannot ever make a mistake for He is perfect, and although at times when I read His Word I have trouble with what He says, I know that it is me who needs to change, not God.  “After His resurrection, Jesus reiterated that ‘all things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled’ (Luke 24:44).”  Luke 24 is a very wonderful passage to read over, and I have often thought that it would have been really nice to be one of those men who heard what the Lord had to say, as I think that He may have started from Genesis and pointed out all the different passages that had to do with what He had just done, that is being crucified and buried and then risen from the dead.  “Because Scripture is God-breathed, it is inspired, authoritative, inerrant, infallible, and all sufficient (2 Timothy 3:16).  Given the certainty of divine revelation, believers are called to ‘remember the words spoken beforehand by the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior spoken by [the] apostles’ (2 Peter 3:2).

“Scripture is absolutely certain because its Author is God, the One who knows all things (1 John 3:20) and declares the end from the beginning (Isa. 46:9-10).”

(1 John 3:20)

“20 ¶  for whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything.”

(Isa. 46:9-10)

“9  Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, 10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:”

“Accordingly, the Word of God not only records the past but also reveals the future (cf. 2 Peter 1:19).

(cf. 2 Peter 1:19)

“19 ¶  We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:”

“Nahum’s predictions about Nineveh demonstrate this truth, foretelling details of God’s judgment on the city before its destruction took place.  The prophet recounted the purpose of this judgment (Nah. 2:1-2), the people subjected to it (2:3-5), the place it would first fall on the city (2:6), and the plight of the Ninevites as a result (2:7).”  All of these verses are at the beginning of this SD, and so I will not quote them here.  “The prophecy of Nahum was accurate down to the specific details.  While an enemy would typically besiege a city to starve its inhabitants, invading only after the people became weak, Nahum indicated that Nineveh’s defenses would instead be wrecked by a flood of water (2:6).  Only God could have foreknow that Assyria’s capital city would be destroyed in that way.  Thus, Nahum’s prophecy provides an astounding testimony to the divine inspiration and veracity of Scripture.”  This is the end of John MacArtur’s introduction to Nahum 2:1-7, and in tomorrow’s SD, Lord willing, I will begin to look at “The Purpose of Judgment” the first section in MacArthur’s commentary from Nahum 2:1-2.

Spiritual Meaning for my Life today:  It was the words that are in the prophecies of God that He used to call me to be His own child, and in eleven days it will be 52 years ago, while vacationing in Florida the Lord used sermons from Hal Lindsey’s Two Years after the Late Great Planet Earth, to open my heart and accept the forgiveness that Jesus Christ offered me.  I have loved all the Bible since then but have a special love for the prophetic books of the Bible, especially the Book of Revelation.

My Steps of Faith for Today:  It is my desire to continue to read and study the Word of God in order to put what I am learning onto my Spiritual Diaries that then go onto my two blogs, so that people who read them can grow in the Lord, and those who do not know Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord will come to that assurance of being a child of the King.

The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the Good.” (Proverbs 15:3).
