PT-6 "History" (2 Peter 3:5-7)

EVENING SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 1/14/2026 9:45 PM

My Worship Time                                                                                        Focus:  PT-6“History”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                                  Reference:  2 Peter 3:5-7

Message of the verses: “5  They willfully ignore this: long ago the heavens and the earth existed out of water and through water by the word of God. 6  Through these the world of that time perished when it was flooded by water. 7  But by the same word the present heavens and earth are held in store for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.” (HCSB)

This day has been different is some ways.  I did get my new Online Bible program in the mail, but still do not have the NASB yet.  My wife had her last infusion today, but will still have to have more treatment, just not two of the ones she has been getting for the last six times.  This, hopefully will help her control her cancer, Lord willing.  The last thing is that we are having a fairly good snow storm as it began right before left the treatment center.  Until I get the NASB one my Bible program I will use the HCSB, or ESV.

I continue this section by quoting from John MacArthur’s commentary, put additions in as I see fit, and quote most or all of the verses he has in his commentary.

“Scripture often associates fire with the final judgment.  The prophet Isaiah wrote”

15 ¶  Look, the LORD will come with fire—  His chariots are like the whirlwind—  to execute His anger with fury,  and His rebuke with flames of fire. 16  For the LORD will execute judgment  on all flesh with His fiery sword,  and many will be slain by the LORD.” (HCSB)  MacArthur also suggests to look at (Daniel 7:9-10; Mic. 1:4; Mal. 4:1).

(Daniel 7:9-10; Mic. 1:4; Mal. 4:1).

“9 ¶  “As I kept watching,     thrones were set in place,    and the Ancient of Days took His seat.    His clothing was white like snow,    and the hair of His head like whitest wool.    His throne was flaming fire;    its wheels were blazing fire. 10  A river of fire was flowing,    coming out from His presence.    Thousands upon thousands served Him;    ten thousand times ten thousand stood before Him.    The court was convened,    and the books were opened.”

“4  The mountains will melt beneath Him,    and the valleys will split apart,    like wax near a fire,    like water cascading down a mountainside.”

“1 ¶  “For indeed, the day is coming, burning like a furnace, when all the arrogant and everyone who commits wickedness will become stubble. The coming day will consume them,” says the LORD of Hosts, “not leaving them root or branches.”

“The New Testament also links fire with judgment.  Paul told the Thessalonians:

“5 ¶  It is a clear evidence of God’s righteous judgment that you will be counted worthy of God’s kingdom, for which you also are suffering, 6  since it is righteous for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you, 7  and /to reward/ with rest you who are afflicted,

along with us. /This will take place/ at the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with His powerful angels, 8  taking vengeance with flaming fire on those who don’t know God and on those who don’t obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.”  MacArthur suggests to look also at Matthew 3:10-12.

Matthew 3:10-12

“10  Even now the ax is ready to strike the root of the trees! Therefore every tree that doesn’t produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire. 11  “I baptize you with water for repentance, but the One who is coming after me is more powerful than I. I am not worthy to take off His sandals. He Himself will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 12  His winnowing shovel is in His hand, and He will clear His threshing floor and gather His wheat into the barn. But the chaff He will burn up with fire that never goes out.’”

“Just as the abundant presence of water facilitated the Flood, so the pervasiveness of fire makes a future inferno credible.  For example, the galaxies consist of billions of burning stars.  Even the earth’s core contains a huge volume of molten rock that may be as hot as 12,400 degrees Fahrenheit.  Only a ten-mile-thick crust separates humanity from earth’s blazing interior.  More significantly, the entire creation, because of its basic atomic structure, is a potential nuclear bomb.”  I mentioned this in an earlier SD how the basic building blocks of the universe is the atom.  Now think about putting two magnets together, putting a negative and positive together they stick together, even jump together when they are near.  However in an atom there are two negatives holding together which should repel, but it is the Lord who holds them together, and at the end of the Millennial kingdom God will let them loose, and you will see the largest Atomic explosion to ever happen.

“The devastating power of nuclear weapons demonstrates the destructive force God has placed within the atom. When He is ready, God will use that kind of nuclear energy in an atomic holocaust that will disintegrate the universe.”  MacArthur writes that we will see this whenever we look at 2 Peter 3:10 later in this chapter.  I have to say that I did not read what MacArthur wrote before I made my comments above, but it is nice to agree with him.

“Peter’s warning, then, is clear:  God has kept the universe for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.  Just as in Noah’s time, the final day of judgment will be for ungodly men and not for believers (cf. Matt. 25:41; Luke 3:17; John 5:29).  The Lord will deliver His own out of the world before He unleashes His final wrath (cf. Mal. 3:16-18).”

(cf. Matt. 25:41; Luke 3:17; John 5:29)

“41  Then He will also say to those on the left, ‘Depart from Me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the Devil and his angels!”

“17  His winnowing shovel is in His hand to clear His threshing floor and gather the wheat into His barn, but the chaff He will burn up with a fire that never goes out.’”

“29  And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.’”

(cf. Mal. 3:16-18)

16  At that time those who feared the LORD spoke to one another. The LORD took notice and listened. So a book of remembrance was written before Him for those who feared Yahweh and had high regard for His name. 17  “They will be Mine,” says the LORD of Hosts, “a special possession on the day I am preparing. I will have compassion on them as a man has compassion on his son who serves him. 18  So you will again see the difference between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve Him.”

Lord willing we will look at 2 Peter 3:8 (Eternity) in tomorrow’s SD.
