Assurance of Divine Judgment”

Peter 3:10
Message of the verse: “But
the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away
with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth
and its works will be burned up.”
It looks like that I can finish up looking at this
very important verse in 2 Peter this evening.
Once again I will continue to quote from John MacArthur’s commentary on
2 Peter along with adding my comments and also looking up any verse references
that he has in his commentary.
“The term roar (rhizedon)
is an onomatopoeia—a word that sounds
like what it means. It speaks of ‘a
rushing sound,’ or ‘a loud noise,’ and also connotes the whizzing, crackling
sounds that objects emit as fire consumes them.
On that future day, the noise from the disintegrating atoms of the
universe will be deafening, unlike anything mortals have ever heard before.
“As Peter continues, he expands his
earlier statement from verse 7:the elements will be destroyed with intense
heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up. The word elements (stoicheia)
literally means ‘ones in a row,’ as in letters of the alphabet or
numbers. When used in reference to the
physical world, it describes the basic atomic components that make up the
universe.” I have described this word as
“basic building blocks,” which describes the atom as it is the basic building
block of the universe. I have also
written about how inside the atom can be compared like two magnets, having north
and south ends and if you put the north and the south together they will stick
together, but if you put two norths or two souths together they will repel, and
that is what is inside the atoms, but one day after the Millennial Kingdom is
over the Lord will allow those atoms to explode and that is how the universe
will be un-created.
“The intense heat will be so
powerful that the earth and its works will be burned up. God’s power will consume everything in
the material realm—the entire physical earth—with its civilizations,
eco-systems, and natural resources—and the surrounding celestial universe. Yet even in the midst of that mind-boggling
destruction, the Lord will protect His sheep.
“At the moment, mockers may ridicule
and false teachers may scoff. But their
disparaging comments and outright insults are only short-lived. One day. Christ will return and God’s
judgment will be displayed—a fact that is guaranteed by His promise and
undergirded by His power. After He returns,
the entire present universe will cease to exist. It will be replaced by a completely new
heaven and earth where the righteous will live with God forever (Rev. 22:5).”

“5 And night will be no more. They will need no
light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign
forever and ever.”
“The
unrighteous, on the other hand, will face the eternal consequences of their sin
(Rev. 20:10-15).

“10 and the devil who had deceived them was
thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet
were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. 11 Then I saw a great white throne and him
who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place
was found for them. 12 And I saw the
dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then
another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by
what was written in the books, according to what they had done. 13 And the sea gave up the dead who were in it,
Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each
one of them, according to what they had done. 14 Then Death and Hades were thrown into the
lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. 15 And if anyone’s name was not found written in
the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.”
In light of all this, believers are to wait with eager
expectation. After all Jesus Christ is
coming again, and His return is right on schedule.”
Some people may wonder what I spend
several hours listening to the Word of God each day and also studying the Word
of God, and the reason is to get the message of the gospel out, as through
these Spiritual Diaries the Holy Spirit sends them around the world each and
every day to 20-25+ countries each day.
I desire to send the gospel of Jesus Christ around the world as we are
instructed in the first chapter of the book of Acts. I also do this so that believers will grow in
grace and in the knowledge of Jesus Christ, to God be the glory. When I get to heaven I will find it
interesting to find out how many people that the Spirit of God has caused
people to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation, so that they will not
have to experience the horrors of hell for eternity. This verse from 2 Peter helps us to
understand what will happen after the Millennial Kingdom is over. Good news for true believes, awful news for
those who are not.
I pray each day that God will use
these Spiritual Diaries to call people to Jesus Christ for salvation along with
causing believers to grow in grace and in the knowledge of Jesus Christ.
