PT-3 “The Plight of Those Under Judgment” (Nahum 2:7)

MORNING SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 1/25/2026 1:53 AM

My Worship Time                                        Focus:  PT-2 “The Plight of Those Under Judgment”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                                     Reference:  Nahum 2:7

Message of the verse:  “So it stands fixed: She is exiled, she is carried away, And her maidservants are moaning like the sound of doves, Beating on their hearts.

“7  its mistress is stripped; she is carried off, her slave girls lamenting, moaning like doves and beating their breasts.” (ESV)

Now remember that I am starting this SD in the middle of a paragraph from John MacArthur’s commentary because there were many verses to look up.

“Nineveh’s destruction would be fulfilled precisely as Nahum had prophesied: its survivors carried away from their land as captives, and their gods shown to be impotent. Exiled connotes the idea of exposing or laying something bare or naked (Nahum 3:5; cf. Isa. 47:2-3; Ezek. 16:37).”

(Nahum 3:5; cf. Isa. 47:2-3; Ezek. 16:37)

5  Behold, I am against you, declares the LORD of hosts, and will lift up your skirts over your face; and I will make nations look at your nakedness and kingdoms at your shame.”

“2  Take the millstones and grind flour, put off your veil, strip off your robe, uncover your legs, pass through the rivers. 3  Your nakedness shall be uncovered, and your disgrace shall be seen. I will take vengeance, and I will spare no one.”

“37  therefore, behold, I will gather all your lovers with whom you took pleasure, all those you loved and all those you hated. I will gather them against you from every side and will uncover your nakedness to them, that they may see all your nakedness.”

“It was used as a technical term for exile because captivity exposed a nation in its shame (cf. 2 Kings 17:6, 11, 23; 18:11).

(cf. 2 Kings 17:6, 11, 23; 18:11)

“6  In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria captured Samaria, and he carried the Israelites away to Assyria and placed them in Halah, and on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.”

11  and there they made offerings on all the high places, as the nations did whom the LORD carried away before them.  And they did wicked things, provoking the LORD to anger,”

23  until the LORD removed Israel out of his sight, as he had spoken by all his servants the prophets. So Israel was exiled from their own land to Assyria until this day.”

“11  The king of Assyria carried the Israelites away to Assyria and put them in Halah, and on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes,”

“The proud city of Nineveh and its gods would be humiliated, which would be God’s retribution Against Assyria’s exile of the northern kingdom of Israel (cf. 2 Kings 17; 18:11; Isa. 10:5-12).  The Lord promised through Nahum that He would seek vengeance for His people.”

(cf. 2 Kings 17; 18:11; Isa. 10:5-12)  2 Kings 17 has forty verses in it so I will not copy that here.

““11  The king of Assyria carried the Israelites away to Assyria and put them in Halah, and on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes,”

5 ¶  Ah, Assyria, the rod of my anger; the staff in their hands is my fury! 6  Against a godless nation I send him, and against the people of my wrath I command him, to take spoil and seize plunder, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets. 7  But he does not so intend, and his heart does not so think; but it is in his heart to destroy, and to cut off nations not a few; 8  for he says: "Are not my commanders all kings? 9  Is not Calno like Carchemish? Is not Hamath like Arpad? Is not Samaria like Damascus? 10  As my hand has reached to the kingdoms of the idols, whose carved images were greater than those of Jerusalem and Samaria, 11  shall I not do to Jerusalem and her idols as I have done to Samaria and her images?" 12  When the Lord has finished all his work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, he will punish the speech of the arrogant heart of the king of Assyria and the boastful look in his eyes.”

Spiritual Meaning for my Life Today:  I realize that many people have a difficult time in studying the Old Testament, but as we look at this prophecy in Nahum we can see that God did exactly what Nahum, through the power of the Holy Spirit, wrote what would happen to Assyria and it happened.  God has so much prophecy in the Old Testament that has not yet been fulfilled, but I can say with assurance it will all be fulfilled.  One of my favorite prophecies from the Old Testament comes from Daniel 9:27 “27  And he shall make a strong covenant with many for one week, and for half of the week he shall put an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall come one who makes desolate, until the decreed end is poured out on the desolator.’”  Daniel is speaking of the Antichrist in using “he.”  The Antichrist will make a covenant with Israel during the tribulation period for seven years (one week), but half way through the seven-year tribulation period will break it, as the last half of the tribulation period will be much worse on Israel than the first.

My Steps of Faith for Today:  Continue to  trust the Lord for strength for my wife as she goes through this very difficult time with her cancer.

From David Jeremiah:  “If thou thinkest twice, before thou speakest once, Thou wilt speak twice the better for it.  (William Penn).  “He who answers a matter before he hears it, it is a folly and a shame to him. )Proverbs 18:13).
